DEKALB, Ill. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team used three goals in the second half to cruise past Northern Illinois, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon on the road.

Ali Kirk got the scoring started for EKU in the 59th minute finding the back of the net on a beautifully played ball into the box.
Michaela Iacono and
Lucy Ream picked up assists on the play.

EKU finally took the lead in the 68th minute. Freshman
Nerea de Diego went one-on-one getting into the box and fired a shot with her right foot to find the net and give the Colonels a 2-1 advantage.

Lucy Ream wrapped up the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 81st minute after fellow freshman
Gretta Gunn played a ball into the box off a corner kick and Ream connected with a header.

The Huskies got on the board first in the 13th minute when Haley Hoppe fired a shot from outside the box and found the back of the net to give NIU a 1-0 lead.

Eastern Kentucky (2-2) could not get much going in the first half only having one shot, but the defense held strong and went into the half trailing by a goal.

Each team had 11 shots on the contest with eight shots on goal. The Colonels had eight corners compared to four for the Huskies.

EKU picked up three assists on the match.

Freshman goalkeeper
Marah Krick had seven saves.
EKU is off a week before they welcome in Ohio University to Richmond next Sunday. The match starts at 1 p.m.
