RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU men's basketball program recently received its 2020-21 NCAA Statistical Champion plaques from the 2020-21 season.  The Colonels led the nation in steals and steals per game last season.
 
Eastern Kentucky totaled 299 steals for an average of 10.3 steals per game.  Abilene Christian was second in the nation with 282 steals and Alabama was third with 280.  National champion Baylor finished fourth with 267 steals.
 
In addition to leading the nation in steals, Eastern Kentucky ranked second in the country in turnovers forced per game (19.14), second in turnover margin (6.3), second in tempo/pace, eighth in scoring (82 ppg) and 10th in 3-pointers made (279).
 
The Colonels also set a new program record for 3-pointers in a game (20).  EKU is coming off a 22-7 season in 2020-21 which featured the most conference wins in program history (15) and the most conference road victories (8) ever.  Head coach A.W. Hamilton's squad was ranked as high as No. 12 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 and concluded the season ranked 25th.
 
Eastern Kentucky's .759 winning percentage was the best by a Colonel team since the 1964-65 season (56 years) and the highest winning percentage by any NCAA Division I team in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
 
National expectations are high for the 2021-22 Colonels.  Eastern Kentucky was picked to win the ASUN Conference by College Sports Madness and predicted to earn a No. 14 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament by CBS Sports.  College Sports Madness picked EKU as the No. 1 team in the ASUN and No. 88 overall in the nation.
