Colonels Set To Begin In-State Rivalry With Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
 Eastern Kentucky will face Bellarmine for the first time as in-state, conference rivals on Saturday at Freedom Hall in Louisville.
 
The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU leads the all-time series 3-0.  The first meeting between the two teams came on Dec. 15, 1958.
 
-  The teams last played each other on Dec. 15, 1990, with the Colonels beating the Knights 84-77.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky is 8-7 this season and coming off a 79-72 loss to Central Arkansas in its ASUN opener on Tuesday.
 
-  EKU averages 83.9 points per game while Bellarmine has only allowed 67.7 points per game this season.
 
-  Devontae Blanton was chosen as the ASUN Player of the Week after recording his second double-double of the season with 29 points and 14 rebounds against Alice Lloyd.  Blanton recorded his second straight double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Central Arkansas.
 
-  Eastern Kentucky has had 11 or more steals in each of its last six games.  The Colonels are ranked third in the nation in steals (173) and fourth in steals per game (11.5/game).
 
-  Cooper Robb is fourth in the ASUN in steals at 1.73 per game.  Robb is sixth in the ASUN with a 38.8 percent 3-point field goal shooting percentage.
 
-  Jomaru Brown entered the 2021-22 season 29th on EKU's all-time scoring list with 1,082 points.  He is now 22nd with 1,213 career points and is two away from tying Bruce Jones (1977-81) for 21st with 1,215 points.
 
-  Michael Wardy set new season-highs with three steals and three blocks against Central Arkansas, and tied his season-best with six rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Bellarmine is 6-8 overall this season and 0-0 in ASUN games.  The Knights haven't played since falling to Loyola Marymount, 71-57, at home on Dec. 21.   
 
-  Their last two games have been canceled/postponed -- at Bradley on Dec. 29 and their ASUN opener at Jacksonville State scheduled for this past Tuesday.
 
-  Four of Bellarmine's six wins were against non-Division I teams.  The Knights' two D-I wins were against Central Michigan, 76-69, in Las Vegas and at Miami (Ohio), 77-68.  Bellarmine has played No. 7 Purdue, No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 2 UCLA and West Virginia.
 
-  As a team, the Knights average 69.6 points and allow just 67.7 points per game.  They have shot 48 percent from the field and have held their opponents to 43 percent shooting.  Bellarmine has made 30 percent of its shots from 3-point range and average just 6.5 made 3-pointers per game.
 
-  Dylan Penn, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, leads the team in scoring and assists at 16.1 points and 5.4 assists per game.  He has made 50 percent of his shots from the field and is second on the team with 4.6 rebounds per game.
 
-   CJ Fleming, a 6-foot guard, averages 11.4 points per game and has made 95 percent of his free throws (39-of-41).  Juston Betz, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior guard, is the team's top rebounder at 6.4 boards per game and second in assists.
