EKU Defeats In-State Midway on Wednesday Afternoon

Walker Grabs Career-High 17 Rebounds

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky women's basketball handles in-state Midway University (2-5, 1-1 River States) by a score of 88-57 on Wednesday afternoon inside Baptist Health Arena.

With the win, EKU moves to 4-2 (.667) on the season before hitting the road for a five-game road swing that includes stops at No. 23 Tennessee, Miami (Ohio), Northern Kentucky, Boston College, and Army West Point.

Head Coach Greg Todd moves to 14-6 (.700) all-time inside Alumni Coliseum at the helm of the program.

Eastern Kentucky and Midway battled through the first five minutes of Wednesday's contest, the Colonels forced back-to-back-to-back Eagle turnovers after the first quarter media timeout en route to a 12-5 run to end the first.

Midway dropped 20 points in the second quarter to bring its deficit to just six points leading into the break. Alice Recanati led the way for EKU with 13 points in the first half.

Bridgid Fox scored seven of EKU's nine points in the third quarter to extend the Colonel lead to 20. Ally Collett netted a buzzer-beating layup with less than a second remaining on the clock to put the home team up 22 heading into the final 10.

The Colonels outscored Midway 23-8 in the third quarter.

Eastern Kentucky kept the Eagles at a 20-point length away to put the game out of reach. Kalissa Lacy hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to secure the 31-point victory for the Colonels.

Antwainette Walker recorded her sixth-straight double-double to kick off the 2022-23 season, extending her top placement in the country as of Wednesday night.

Recanati scored a season-high 19 points in tonight's contest, her highest value since February of last year against Kennesaw State.

The Colonels brought down a season-leading 58 rebounds against the Eagles, the highest amount since 2012 against Miami (Ohio).

The Colonels will prepare for a weekend showdown with No. 23 Tennessee this Sunday, Nov. 27 at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn. Sunday's game is scheduled to air live on SEC Network+ beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET. Tickets to see the Colonels a few hours down I-75 can be purchased on the Volunteers' website.
