CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Eastern Kentucky women's basketball battled hard on Tuesday morning against Boston College (9-4, 0-1 ACC) but fell short in a 76-65 decision inside Conte Forum.
With the loss, EKU moves to 4-6 (.400) on the season and will head to Army West Point on Sunday for one of its last three non-conference games of the season.
Emma Hacker led the Colonels with 22 points on 4-of-6 (.400) shooting from the three-point line, tying her career-high points value. The Frenchburg, Ky. native added seven rebounds and another career-high five blocks.
Danielle Rainey totaled her second straight performance in double-figure scoring with 13 points against the Eagles.
Marissa Mackins earned her first start for Eastern Kentucky, adding 10 points and four assists in the contest.
The Colonels jumped to a quick start and outscored BC 9-4 as both teams entered the first quarter media timeout. A three from
Bridgid Fox separated EKU by eight points, its largest lead of the day, with a little over a minute left. Boston College ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to end the first down 22-18 to EKU.
Boston College quickly regained control of the contest scoring the first six points in the second quarter. Another three from Hacker gave EKU its last lead of the game at 25-24 with 7:23 left on the clock. Back-to-back threes from BC's Taina Mair gave the Eagles a seven-point edge over the Colonels. Both teams trading baskets with two minutes left until half, BC walked away with a 12-point advantage over EKU at 42-30.
Both teams struggled to get into an offensive rythym out of halftime, seven-straight BC points after the third quarter media timeout placed the home team up by 16 points. Hacker earned an and-one with a minute left on the clock to stop the bleeding, setting her season-high points in the process.
The Eagles extended their led to as much as 20 in the fourth quarter to seal the win on Education Day in Conte Forum infront of 1400 fans. Hacker and Rainey combined for nine of EKU's 18 points in the last frame.
Eastern Kentucky continues its road swing with a game against Army on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 1:00 p.m. ET at Christl Arena. Sunday's contest can be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can tune-in on The Varsity Network app.
