WEST POINT, N.Y. – Behind a barrage of scoring from
Antwainette Walker,
Danielle Rainey,
Marissa Mackins, and
Alice Recanati, Eastern Kentucky women's basketball blanks Army West Point by a score of 83-62 on Sunday afternoon inside Christl Arena.
With the win, EKU moves to 5-6 (.455) on the season with two non-conference games remaining on the slate against in-state NAIA Union and Alice Lloyd.
Mackins recorded her 1000th point early in the first quarter off a corner three, the Durham, N.C. product has recorded double-figure points in her first three games in the maroon and white. Mackins also added seven rebounds and seven assists, both of those values are her season high totals.
Walker was reinserted into the starting lineup after being sidelined due to an injury. Against Army, she registered 22 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season, which places her back in the top-15 in most NCAA national scoring categories.
Rainey scored 18 points in the win over West Point, she has totaled 12-or-more points in six of her last seven games as a Colonel.
EKU jumped to a 11-6 run through the first four minutes of the contest with Army, back-to-back jumpers from Walker separated the Colonels to a nine-point lead after the first quarter.
Army scored the first nine points to tie the game at 26 all, a six-point swing from Rainey brought Eastern Kentucky to the second quarter media timeout. The Colonels ended the frame on a 10-point run for the largest lead of the half at 48-30.
Eastern Kentucky would keep the Black Knights at a 15-point length away during the third quarter as Walker scored eight points for her seventh double-double of the season. After being out the last two games due to a lingering injury, she placed herself back in the top-5 of the NCAA double-double leaderboards.
Recanati scored five points to open the final frame for EKU and extend its largest lead of the game at 21. The Colonels remained 20 points ahead of Army in the final eight minutes of the contest to secure their fifth win of the season.
EKU returns to Baptist Health Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 2:00 p.m. ET as the team hosts in-state Union College before heading on Christmas break. Tickets for Tuesday's game can be purchased on the
