RICHMOND, Ky. – Future Colonel Tayshawn Comer was recently chosen as the Indianapolis City Player of the Year.
Comer, a 3-star recruit, is the 40th ranked point guard in the country by ESPN. Prep Hoops has Comer rated as the 226th best prospect in the nation overall. He is one of the top rated players in the state and will be a finalist for Indiana Mr. Basketball. Earlier in the season, Comer was chosen as a McDonalds All-American nominee.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound guard is averaging 17 points, 6.2 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game for Cathedral High School. He is shooting 51 percent from the field and 48 percent from 3-point range. The Irish are 22-6 overall and ranked sixth overall in the state. Cathedral is the highest scoring team in Indiana at 73.89 points per game. Comer has scored more than 1,277 points during his career.
The player of the year was chosen by city coaches. Comer was also a first team all-city selection.
Comer has led Cathedral to the Class 4A Regional Semifinals. The Irish play Terre Haute North Vigo this afternoon and with a win will play for the region championship tonight.
