Colonels Split Doubleheader, Win Series At Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –
Rallying for the second time in the series to win, Eastern Kentucky beat Austin Peay, 8-5, in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday to win the series.
 
The Governors won the first game of the day 13-1.  EKU erased a 5-0 deficit in the ninth inning to win game one of the series 7-5 on Friday.
 
The Colonels (11-6) will play at No. 3 Tennessee (15-1) in Knoxville on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
 
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third inning of game two, Max Williams got Eastern Kentucky on the board with a one-out single to left center.  Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Will King doubled down the left field line to clear the bases and give the visitors a 4-2 lead.
 
Williams had an RBI double in the fourth and Conner Davis hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 6-2.
 
King went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.  Williams had a 2-for-4 day with a run and two driven in.  Logan Thomason was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
 
Anthony Vargas (1-0) earned his first win after pitching one and one-third innings of scoreless relief.  Will Brian retired the side in order in the final inning to pick up his sixth save of the season.
 
Gino Avros was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Governors (7-10).
 
In game one, Austin Peay scored five runs each in the third and fifth innings.  Jack Alexander had a two-run double and Harrison Brown had an RBI single to highlight the big third inning that made it 6-0.
 
After Kendal Ewell's solo home run in the top of the fifth got Eastern Kentucky on the board, the Governors put it out of reach in the bottom half.  Jonah Beamon had a two-run single to center and Avros hit a two-run home run.  At the end of five, the home team led 13-1.
 
Ewell was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI.  Avros had three hits in four at bats with four runs and two RBIs.  Alexander was 2-for-2 with a run and three RBIs.
