Colonels Complete Sweep Of North Alabama, Ewell Hits Two More Home Runs

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Kendal Ewell hit his fourth and fifth home runs in the last two games, and Ron Franklin Jr. hit a pair of homers in one inning, as EKU completed a 3-game sweep of North Alabama with a 15-8 win on Sunday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
The Colonels, who are now in a first place tie in the ASUN West Division, will host Morehead State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  For Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer, EKU and the Eagles will wear yellow shoelaces in support of pediatric cancer awareness. 
 
After hitting three home runs on Saturday, Ewell tied the game 1-1 with a solo shot in his first at bat of the game. 
 
The Colonels (26-13, 12-6 ASUN) pulled away with nine runs in the second.  Franklin started the frame with a solo dinger over the wall in left.  Logan Thomason had an RBI single.  Conner Davis drew a bases loaded walk.  Roderick Criss drove in two with a single up the middle.  Franklin capped the inning and made it 11-1 when he sent his second blast of the inning over the wall in left center with two runners on.
 
With one out and no one on in the fifth, Ewell homered for the fifth time in two games with a shot over the wall in left field for his 12th of the season.  The sophomore outfielder also had a run scoring single in the eighth.  He finished Sunday's game 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.  In the last two games combined, he is 8-for-10 with five home runs, 10 RBIs and six runs scored.
 
Franklin had a 2-for-4 game with two runs and four RBIs.  Charlie Ludwick went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs.
 
The bullpen trio of Vladimir Ceverino, Anthony Vargas and Will Brian combined for three innings of hitless baseball to end the game.
 
Austin Thrasher was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs for North Alabama (9-28, 2-16 ASUN).
