RICHMOND, Ky. – Dardan Kapiti, a 6-foot-10 forward, signed to play basketball at Eastern Kentucky.  Kapiti won a gold medal in the 2018 FIBA U18 European Championship.

The Prishtina, Kosovo native averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per game in the 2019 FIBA U20 European Championship.

Kapiti is the latest addition to a recruiting class ranked 66th in the country by 247Sports.  The class also includes EKU's first-ever ESPN four-star recruit in point guard Leland Walker, three-star point guard Tayshawn Comer, junior college All-American John Ukomadu and Kentucky Mr. Basketball Turner Buttry.  Walker and Comer are rated among the top-40 high school point guards in the nation.

EKU's class is ranked higher than such programs as Connecticut (67th), Louisville (68th), Oklahoma State (72nd), Arizona (75th), Tennessee (76th), Mississippi State (79th) and Texas A&M (85th).  It is the highest rated Eastern Kentucky class in the internet recruiting era.

Kapiti played three seasons at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, seeing action in 50 games.  He scored 10 points in a win at Rice as a freshman in 2019-20.  He was third on the team in blocks as a sophomore.

"Dardan is a great pick up for us on the floor and in the locker room," EKU Head Coach A.W. Hamilton said.  "He's a tremendous kid with great length and athleticism.  He has a high motor and plays the game the right way.  He fits our style perfectly."

Kapiti was also recruited by Florida Gulf Coast, Coastal Carolina, North Florida and Samford.
