LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Matthew Corlew's two-out single in the 10th inning drove in what proved to be the winning run as Eastern Kentucky beat Bellarmine, 4-3, on Sunday in the series finale at Knights Field.

After dropping the first game of the series in 13 innings, the Colonels (29-15, 14-7 ASUN) won two straight to take the series.

Corlew came into the game as a pinch hitter in the top of the ninth and singled through the left side to start the inning. He moved to second on a one-out single, but was stranded there.Â
Anthony Vargas came on to pitch in the bottom of the ninth. Bellarmine got the winning run to third with one out, but Vargas struck out Jacob Mulcahy on four pitches and got a fly ball to center to end the threat.

Logan Thomason started the 10th with a single to left field. After getting two straight outs, the Knights chose to intentionally walk
Charlie Ludwick and move Thomason into scoring position. Corlew sent the first pitch he saw into right center and Thomason came home with the go-ahead run.

With two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Brett Pfaadt singled to third, but Vargas struck out A.J. Arnold to end the game.

Thomason gave Eastern Kentucky a short-lived lead in the top of the first when he scored on a balk. Matt Higgins led off the bottom of the first with a home run to tie it. Bellarmine took a 2-1 lead when Ashton Smith scored on a double play.

Kendal Ewell's double in the fifth brought home
Max Williams and
Jalen Jones for a 3-2 lead. The Knights tied it in the bottom half of the fifth.

Ewell finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Thomason was 1-for-5 and scored two runs. Jones went 2-for-5 with a run. Corlew was 2-for-2 with the big RBI.

Vargas got the win to go to 2-0 on the season. He pitched two innings, allowed two hits and one walk while striking out three.Â
Cameron Kalandros pitched three innings of hitless relief through the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Higgins had four hits in five at bats, scored twice and drove in a run for Bellarmine (10-33, 7-14 ASUN).

EKU will play at Morehead State on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
