Colonels Pick Up Fifth Point With A Draw In Louisville

First of Three Road Matches

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky soccer completed the first of three-straight matches on the road, drawing at nil with in-state ASUN Conference foe Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon at the Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

With the tie, the Colonels move to 5-2-2 on the season and 1-0-2 in ASUN play. Bellarmine remains winless heading into a two-match road swing with a record of 0-3-7 and 0-0-3 in the conference.

"Full credit to Bellarmine and their coaching staff. They did an excellent job today and had a ton of belief in their game plan," said head coach Matt Cosinuke. "We didn't play to our usual standards, lacked fight and were reactive for long stretches of the game. That being said, we gritted out chances inside the box, shut out another opponent and found a point on the road. Being successful over the entirety of the season means learning lessons as they come to you. Keep growing, keep investing in the process and keep moving forward. We're excited to get back out to train and compete."

Fifth-year keeper Lauren Seedlock earned her third clean sheet on the season, 13th of her career. The Simpsonville, S.C. product saved four shots in Thursday's match, bringing her season total to 42.

Seedlock stopped BU's early look at goal in the 14th minute, emphatically angling her body and using her legs to deflect Alexa Orozco's shot.

The Colonels first shot on frame came in the 30th minute, senior Ali Kirk sent a ball that was saved by Bellarmine's Elyssa Francis, followed by a ricochet attempt from Gretta Gunn.

EKU would head into the halftime pause after senior Myla Sharpless placed a free kick on goal, once again saved by the Knights' keeper.

The back-and-forth affair continued well into the latter half of the second period, Eastern Kentucky's best chance to find net came in the 75th as first-year Kaitlyn Rowlett narrowly missed off the left post.

The high-intensity match increased with five minutes remaining in regulation, both teams ending the contest with a look at the advantage. Seedlock halted the BU attack, coming off her line to swallow the ball around 15 yards out. Fifth-year Celia Lopez nearly gave EKU the nod, missing high center off a header.

Eastern Kentucky gained their fifth ASUN point in three matches as the whistle sounded, picking up a positive result in its last six matches.

EKU and Bellarmine ended the contest tied with eight shots and 50 percent possession apeice, BU narrowly edged the Colonels in SOG (4-3) and had the clear advantage in corners (5-2).

The Colonels wrap up a three-match road test next week in Tennessee, facing Lipscomb on Thursday, Sept. 29 in Nashville and Austin Peay on Sunday, Oct. 2 in Clarksville.
