Hot Shooting No. 4 Utah Defeats EKU in Great Alaska Shootout Finals

Colonels Fall to 5-1 on the Season

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – EKU women's basketball fell to No. 4 Utah by a score of 117-72 in the Great Alaska Shootout Championship on Sunday night at Alaska Airlines Center, Antwainette Walker was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the event after dropping 29 points.

With the loss, EKU drops to 5-1 on the season and will return home for its next three home games.

Walker led all scorers with 29 points in Sunday's finale, including outscoring Alaska's own Alissa Pili, who totaled 28 points in her homecoming in front of 2,300 fans. The Lisle, Ill. native shot 13-of-29 from the floor with four rebounds and three steals.

Walker has scored 20 or more points in her last three games, including a season-high 38 points in a win over Evansville.

EKU's Raphaela Toussaint and Althea Kara Angeles were the other two Colonels in double-figures with 11 points apiece. Angeles shot 50 percent from the floor, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arch.

Guard Ivy Turner dished out a career-high nine assists in the loss and only had one turnover. Through six games this season Turner has a 5.33 assist-to-turnover ratio, which rests among the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference and top 25 nationally.

Nationally ranked Utah shot 66 percent from the floor, 64 percent from three, and 91 percent from the line to total its most points scored this season. The No. 4 ranked Utes hit a total of 18 three-pointers against the Colonels to set a Great Alaska Shootout tournament record.

Pili, who is the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year and National Player of the Year candidate, recorded 28 points and was 11-of-18 from the floor.  The Anchorage native added eight rebounds and six assists to earn her Great Alaska Shootout Most Outstanding Player honors.

EKU and Utah were neck-and-neck throughout the first quarter until the Utes ended the frame on a 12-4 run.

Utah pushed its lead to over 30 with 4:20 left in the third quarter and matched every three EKU made. The Colonels were able to cut the deficit to 26 heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite EKU's effort on the glass and in transition, Utah never relinquished its large lead and even pushed the mark to over 40 near the media timeout. A 9-2 Utes run in the last two minutes resulted in a 117-72 loss for the Colonels against its highest-ranked adversary since the 1980s.

EKU is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 25 against in-state Campbellsville-Harrodsburg (0-3) in Richmond at Baptist Health Arena.
