RICHMOND, Ky. – Behind
Antwainette Walker's 27 points, EKU women's basketball advances to 6-1 for the first time since 1981 with a 100-25 win over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg on Saturday evening at Baptist Health Arena.
EKU's 75-point victory over CU-Harrodsburg marks the 29th consecutive win for the Colonels against non-DI opponents dating back to 2004.
Walker, who ended with a game-leading 27 points, scored in double figures for her 35th consecutive game. The reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week also added five rebounds and three assists to the mix.
Forward
Sierra McCullough brought down a game-leading 11 rebounds in the win, her fifth game this season in double-figure rebounding. Entering play on Saturday, McCullough was second in the NCAA in total rebounds.
EKU forwards
Raphaela Toussaint (12) and
Bridgid Fox (10) were the other two Colonels in double-figure scoring. Fox was named the player of the game with her season-high 10 points and seven rebounds for the second time this year.
The Colonels opened Saturday's contest on a 12-4 run off made baskets by
Alice Recanati and three-pointers from Walker. Back-to-back layups from Fox extended EKU's lead to 10 at the under-two-minute mark.
Ivy Turner ended the first frame with a made jumper from eight feet out to seal a 18-6 Colonel lead.
A slow start to the second quarter saw EKU push its lead to 15 off four made layups to arrive at the media timeout. Toussaint,
Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor, and
Kailani Lindsey scored on straight possessions bringing the Colonels to a 20-point, 36-16 lead at the end of the first half.
Out of the half, EKU scored on 11-of-12 possessions to create a wide 41-point gap at the media timeout. Walker scored four on four of the drives to push her total to over 20 for the fourth game in a row.
Consecutive threes from Walker and a made floater by
Althea Kara Angeles ended the third quarter with a 53-point, 72-19 EKU lead. The Colonels outscored Harrodsburg 36-6 in the third quarter, the second-most points in a single quarter by an EKU team in program history.
EKU continued its press into the fourth quarter which led to three turnovers and two made layups by Lindsey, who ended her night with a career-high eight points. A made three by Walker and two made layups by McGinnis-Taylor pushed EKU to a 70-point lead with two minutes left in regulation. The Colonels ended the game with a 75-point lead to claim the battle, 100-25.
EKU's 75-point margin of victory was the second most in program history. The Colonels went 44-of-91 (.484) from the floor, 44 made field goals were the most by an EKU team since its 110-49 win over Alice Lloyd College last season.
The Colonels outrebounded CUH 61-31, the team's third-most rebounds in a single game in program history. EKU had 29 assists to CUH's six and forced the Pioneers to 27 turnovers.
EKU returns to action on Monday, Dec. 4 against Simmons College at 4 p.m. back inside Baptist Health Arena.
