Colonels Score Nine Unanswered Runs, Top UNC Asheville 10-4

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The EKU baseball team erased a 4-1 deficit with nine unanswered runs to beat UNC Asheville 10-4 on Saturday afternoon at Earle Combs Stadium and pull even in its first series of the season.

The Colonels answered UNCA's first run in the top of the first with one of their own in the bottom of the inning. After EKU's first two batters were hit by pitch, Logan Thomason advanced both runners with a fly out and Roderick Criss II lined out to left to plate DJ Sullivan.

The Bulldogs built a 4-1 lead with three runs in the second inning but would manage just three hits offensively the rest of the day. EKU cut the deficit in the third when Miguel Larreal scored on a wild pitch and Thomason came home on an RBI single off the bat of Charlie Ludwick.

After another Ludwick single scored Will King to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, EKU took its first lead when Ludwick came home to score on a Max Williams single. Williams eventually scored on a balk to give the Colonels a 6-4 advantage.

EKU plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Conner Davis singled home Criss and a Jalen Jones double down the right-field line brought home Ludwick and Davis.

The Colonels added an insurance run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Williams.

EKU's bullpen combined for six innings of shutout pitching as Bryce Travis picked up the, allowing just two hits in 2.0 innings. Luke Reed earned his first save of the season, holding UNCA to two hits over 4.0 innings.

Ludwick finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Williams went 2-for-3 with two runs driven in. Davis also notched two hits in the victory, while Larreal swiped two bags.

The Colonels and Bulldogs will decide the series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
