RICHMOND, Ky. – Roderick Criss II hit a 2-run home run in the seventh inning and
Charlie Ludwick added a solo shot in the eighth as the Colonels beat Presbyterian College, 4-2, in the series opener on Friday at Earle Combs Stadium.

Through the first six innings of the game, PC starter Duncan Howard and EKU starter
Rese Brown combined to allow two runs, only one of which was earned, and strike out 12 batters. Brown held the Blue Hose to one unearned run on three hits, walked three and struck out six in his six innings of work on the day.

After
Ron Franklin Jr. singled to start the seventh, Criss sent the second pitch he saw sailing over the wall in right center to put the Colonels on top 3-1. Ludwick homered to start the eighth for a 4-1 lead.

Chase Hughes had a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to draw the visitors to within two, 4-2. Ryan Becker singled to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs, but
Luke Reed struck out the final batter to end the threat and secure his second save of the season.

Criss finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs for the Colonels (5-9). Ludwick was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.Â
Miguel Larreal also had a 3-hit game.

Joel Dragoo was 1-for-3 and scored both runs for Presbyterian (7-7).

The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday will be Kids Day. All kids 12 and under receive FREE admission to both games and will get to play catch and run the bases on the field after game two.
