CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Eastern Kentucky University lost both games of a doubleheader at Western Carolina on Saturday, falling by scores of 9-5 and 10-3.

In game one,
Charlie Ludwick's single through the right side and a ground ball by
Max Williams pushed in two runs in the first to stake the Colonels to an early lead. The Catamounts answered in the bottom half of the inning. Brandon Butterworth drew a bases loaded walk. James Hinson followed with a grand slam for a 5-2 WCU lead. The home team led the rest of the way.

Conner Davis led off the third inning with a home run, his first of the season.Â
Logan Thomason started the eighth with a solo shot, his second of the season. Davis also had an RBI single in the fifth. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Brock Blanton pitched an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief with three strikeouts for EKU.

The Colonels (4-7) jumped out in front first in game two as well.Â
Miguel Larreal led off the game with a home run over the wall in right. However, WCU (4-7) answered in the bottom of the first just like it did in game one. Nate Stocum hit a three-run home run and the Catamounts led the rest of the game.

Cole Jones hit a three-run home run as part of a five-run third inning for Western Carolina that pushed the home team ahead 8-1.Â
Ron Franklin Jr. hit a solo home run for EKU to start the fifth inning. A ground ball by
Jalen Jones later in the inning allowed Williams to score, cutting the deficit to 10-3.

The EKU bullpen did not allow a run over the final four innings of the game, but the offense couldn't close the gap. Freshman
Nathan Lawson tossed two innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Larreal finished 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI.

The series finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
