Colonels Avoid Third Straight Extra-Inning Game On Larreal's Walk-Off Single

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
EKU avoided a third straight extra-inning game on Miguel Larreal's walk-off single to beat first place Lipscomb, 11-10, in the series finale on Sunday.

After the Bisons scored three in the top of the ninth to tie the game, Santiago Peralta was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the ninth to get the winning run on base.  Logan Thomason's walk pushed Peralta 90 feet closer.  On a 2-0 count, Larreal lifted a ball down the left field line that landed in fair territory by just a couple of feet.  Peralta scored easily from second for the win.

The Colonels (20-24, 10-11 ASUN) trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the fifth, but strung together a five-run inning to take the lead.  Back-to-back bunt singles by DJ Sullivan and Jalen Jones loaded the bases.  A walk by Ron Franklin Jr. forced in the tying run.  Peralta followed with a two-run single to center field.  Logan Thomason's double to left center brought in the fourth run of the inning.  Peralta scored on a fielder's choice to make it 9-5.

A home run from Jake Berg and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Caleb Ketchup in the sixth allowed the Bisons to close the gap to 9-7.  Larreal's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh pushed EKU back in front by three, 10-7.

Lipscomb (23-21, 15-6 ASUN) loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth, but was down to its last strike.  On a 2-2 count, Will Lee cleared the bases and tied the game with a double to left center.

Thomason hit his 10th home run of the season in the third and finished 2-for-3 with three walks, two runs and three RBIs.  Larreal was 3-for-6 with three runs driven in.  Franklin had a pair of doubles and went 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs and two RBIs.  Peralta was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Berg had a 4-for-5 day with a home run, four runs and one RBI.

The Colonels will play at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
