RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU men's golf head coach
Justin Tereshko announced the addition of six newcomers to the 2023-24 roster on Tuesday morning.
Alec Barker,
Jason Kolbas,
Isaac Meador,
Deacon Pinson,
Kannon Tucker, and
Zach Watterson all signed this offseason and are set to join the Colonels for their third campaign as a member of the ASUN Conference.
Out of the six newcomers, three will enter EKU as juniors having previous collegiate experience and three are incoming freshmen.
"I'm extremely excited to welcome our 2023-24 signing class to campus," said Tereshko. "This group, alongside our returners from last season, have the capability to do something special and I can't wait for the season to start."
Tucker, a product of Somerset, Ky., joins the team with 55 rounds of college golf under his belt at Bellarmine and is a two-time ASUN Honor Roll recipient. Kannon has a career average of 74.71 and recorded a career-best 73.32 average during his sophomore season last year with the Knights. He has 15 rounds at-or-below par, has one career finish inside the top 10, and had a career-low round of 67 at The Jewell last April. Kannon's arrival to EKU marks Tereshko's second opportunity to coach the local product, having coaching him at Bellarmine two seasons ago.
Kolbas joins the Colonels after spending last season with Iowa Western CC where he helped lead the Reivers to their first NJCAA District Championship in program history. He finished the season as the first-place medalist at the Blue River Classic, posting a three-round total of 204 and a career-low round of 66. Jason helped IWCC to three team wins and seven top-5 finishes as the team advanced to the NJCAA Division 1 Men's Golf Tournament, placing 13th.
Meador, a NCCAA National Tournament medalist and Tennessee native, joins EKU after two years with Cleveland State CC and Campbellsville Harrodsburg. Last season with CUH, Meador placed third at the 2022 NCCAA National Tournament with a three-round score of 220 (71-75-74) and led the field after the first round. He was named a NCCAA All-American at the conclusion of the event.
Watterson joins EKU as a two-time Kentucky Junior PGA Championship medalist and medalist at the KHSAA State Golf Championship. Zach claimed the Kentucky Junior PGA Championship during his youth career and was the only member of Lee County boy's golf program to compete in every event as an individual.
Barker, the son of Morehead State women's golf coach Stephanie Barker, has had seven top-10 individual finishes since 2019, including winning the Ball State Championship at TPC Woodland Trails in 2021. Barker has made appearances in the U.S. Junior and has traveled across the country this summer in preparation for the upcoming season.
Pinson, a native of Columbus, Ohio, is set to join the team after three top-25 finishes on the Golfweek Junior Tour since 2021.
The 2023-24 EKU men's golf roster stands at 13 members, consisting of six newcomers and six returners and look to improve off a 13th place finish last season at the ASUN Championship.
