RICHMOND, Ky. – The support staff for EKU's 2023-24 men's basketball season has been finalized.

Asa Duvall joins the staff for the first time in the position of director of player development.  David Meikle, who has served in different roles within the program since 2018, moves into the full time position of video coordinator.  Former Colonel Isaiah Minter will serve as a program assistant and former manager Bryce Watts will be a graduate manager.

Four starters and a total of 12 players return from EKU's 2022-23 team that finished the season with a 23-14 record and advanced to the championship of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).  EKU returns 89 percent of its scoring, 89 percent of its rebounds, 90 percent of its assists, 79 percent of its steals and 91 percent of its blocks from 2022-23.

Duvall, who played at fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Lipscomb University from 2014 to 2018, served as a graduate assistant at the University of Pikeville during the 2022-23 season.  He was the team's travel coordinator, assisted with individual workouts and skill development, and was the head coach of the Bears' junior varsity team.

As EKU's director of player development, Duvall will work in coordination with Hamilton and assistant coaches to oversee and manage the internal needs and services of student-athletes.  Duvall will assist with on-court development as well as working with multiple athletic department units including academics, compliance, marketing/communications and the ticket office.

"Asa is a former player of mine at Hargrave," said EKU Head Coach A.W. Hamilton.  "His tough/warrior mentality as a player is exactly how he's approached his career in the coaching profession.  He's tremendous with skill development and connecting with the players on a day-to-day basis."

From December 2019 to June of 2022, Duvall was the video coordinator at Tennessee State University.  He was responsible for scouting reports, highlight tapes and recruiting videos, while assisting with recruiting visits, summer camps and fundraising.

Duvall earned a bachelor's in business administration with an emphasis in corporate management at Lipscomb in May of 2018.  He played in 64 games over his four-year career with the Bisons.

The Brentwood, Tennessee native spent the 2013-14 season playing on the postgraduate team at Hargrave Military Academy, averaging 17 points and five assists per game for a squad that went 32-8 and ranked No. 2 in the nation.  Duvall was the 15th-ranked player in the state of Virginia and rated as the No. 74 shooting guard in the nation.

Meikle first joined the EKU men's basketball program as a manager in 2018.

After serving three seasons as a manager, Meikle spent the 2021-22 season as a graduate assistant at Mercyhurst University.  He returned to EKU in 2022 as the program's video coordinator, which became a full time position this summer.

Meikle's responsibilities include designing recruiting/team videos, working with Synergy and Sportscode, and cutting and editing film for the creation of scouting reports.

In his one season at Mercyhurst, he helped the team advance to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.  He assisted in player skill development, coordinated film exchange, aided in scouting and recruiting, and handled operations tasks.

Meikle earned a bachelor's of science degree in business management at EKU in May of 2021.

"Dave has been with us since arriving at EKU six years ago," Hamilton said.  "He is a great example of a Day 1 guy.  He brings a tremendous worth ethic and passion for the game, and our players love him.  He takes pride in EKU and will represent the university in a first class manner."

After concluding his playing career at EKU, Minter spent the 2022-23 season as a student manager for the men's basketball program.  He played three seasons for the Colonels after spending his freshman season at Union College.  As a senior in 2021-22, Minter played in 12 games and started once.

"Zae is a local star who played for Madison Central and for us here at EKU," said Hamilton.  "He's a great relationship builder and brings a winning mindset every day.  He will make a great impact on the program, on and off the floor."

As a high school player at Madison Central in Richmond, Minter was a third-team all-state selection in 2018.  He scored 31 points in a win over Lexington Bryan Station in the 2018 11th Region Tournament.

Watts, a Hazard, Kentucky native, served as a manager for the EKU program during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons while completing an undergraduate degree in sport management.

"Bryce is an extremely hard worker and was instrumental for us as the head manager," Hamilton said.  "He has been excellent at helping behind the scenes and we are really excited he will remain in our program after serving as our head manager."
