RICHMOND, Ky. – A two-goal performance by forward
Jami Anderson powered the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team to a 3-0 win over North Florida on Thursday night at the EKU Soccer Field.
With the win, EKU (4-6-2, 3-1-1 ASUN) has earned 10 points in its last four matches towards the Atlantic Sun Conference standings. The Colonels cap September winners of three of their last four matches over Austin Peay, Kennesaw State and UNF.
Anderson's brace was the highlight in Thursday's win over the Ospreys, she became the 12th Colonels to score two goals in a single game – last recorded by
Maddy Lemery in a win at Austin Peay during the 2022 season.
Leading the Colonels' attack was Anderson,
Lydia Jervier and
Maia Ransom, who attempted a team-leading two shots in the match.
Gretta Gunn and
Chiara Premoli tallied assists against UNF. Gunn pushed her program-leading assist total to five this year, 13 for her career. Premoli recorded the first assist of her career in the win.
Jervier scored the game winning goal in the fourth minute of Thursday's game, as she was fouled in the UNF box and consequently awarded the penalty kick. The Cincinnati native converted the shot and North Florida was required to play the final 86 minutes of competition limited to 10 players on the field.
Back-and-forth action continued throughout the remainder of the first half. Ransom attempted the Colonels only other shot attempt before the horn sounded and EKU went to the locker room up 1-0.
Ransom continued her presence into the second half, attempting a shot on target that was saved by UNF's backup keeper Sarah Barrentime. Jervier hit a shot off the woodwork three minutes later as EKU continued its attack.
Anderson found her first goal of the match in the 60th minute, using her right foot to place a ball past the keeper and find bottom netting.
She achieved her brace just 20 minutes later as Gunn placed a cross in the box that Anderson used her body to place in the back of the net. Her two-goal day marked the 18th different time an EKU student-athlete has scored multi goals in a single match.
UNF had a shot on target in the 88th minute that was saved by
Marah Krick in the lower right of the frame. The Glenmoore, Pa. product achieved her third shutout of the season with two saves on eight shots faced.
With the 3-0 result, EKU has recorded back-to-back three-goal performances for the first time since 2021.
EKU is back in action on Sunday as it hosts Jacksonville for Senior Day beginning at 12 p.m. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. as the program is set to honor a 10-member senior class.
