ATLANTA – Eastern Kentucky University men's golfer Joe Benton has been named the ASUN Conference Men's Golfer of the Week following a top three individual placement last week at the Colonel Shootout.
 
Thursday's honor is the third weekly award given to an EKU student-athlete as a member of the conference. The first nod since Lake Leroux on Feb. 24, 2022.
 
Benton, an Irvine, Ky. product, led all EKU performers with a three-round total of 207 (-3) and a career-low 67 in the first round. In the Colonels' home event he recorded 12 birdies and had an eagle in the second round to complete the 54-hole tournament tied for third place.
 
EKU would go on to finish the event as runner-ups, the highest team placement under head coach Justin Tereshko in his two years in Richmond. The team finished above two ASUN Conference foes in Bellarmine and Austin Peay.
 
The Colonels are back in action on Sunday at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawley's Island, S.C.
