RICHMOND, Ky – The Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team earned its second top-five team finish in as many tournaments, finishing in second at the Colonel Classic on Sunday.
Over 54 holes of play at the University Club at Arlington, the Colonels shot, -12 (828) as a team, five shots back of Longwood, who won the tournament at -17 (823).
Entering the final round trailing Longwood by 15 shots, the Colonels staged a furious comeback, shooting -10 as a team, cutting the Lancers' lead down to two at one point, but ultimately came up short.
Junior
Zach Watterson led the Colonels, finishing tied for third individually at -4 (206) with a -4 performance in Sunday's final round that went unblemished, shooting par or better on every hole.
Justin Begley earned his first top-10 finish of the 2025-26 season, shooting -3 (207) for the tournament, ending tied for sixth.
Begley opened the tournament with an even-par 70, before shooting -2 and -1 in the final two rounds.
Redshirt freshman
Hristo Yanakiev finished tied for 10
th, at -2 (208). The Bulgarian began the final round at +2 but produced a final round 66 (-4) to earn his place in the top-10.
Anders Larson finished in 13
th place at -1 (209) as EKU's final countable score towards the team leaderboard.
