RICHMOND, KY – EKU football has 10 newcomers transferring to join the roster for the Spring semester as announced by head coach
Walt Wells on Wednesday.

The additions feature six new members of the defensive secondary, one linebacker, two offensive lineman, and a quarterback, with five of the transfers coming directly from other Division I programs.
Â
At the quarterback position, the Colonels welcome Matt Morrissey from Western Illinois who threw for 13 touchdowns and 2,014 yards on 207 completions of 339 attempts.

On the offensive line, EKU adds Liam Coppinger from the College of Idaho and Nick Bryan from Kent State.
Â
In 2023, Coppinger helped pave the way for the Coyotes to a 10-3 record including two postseason wins, and 5,792 yards of total offense.

Bryan comes to Richmond from the Golden Flashes after appearing in every game in 2023 including three starts at center.
Â
On the defensive side of the ball, EKU brings in Jacquez McGowan as an outside linebacker from Tennessee Tech. In 2023, the Valdosta, Ga. native appeared in 11 games recording 59 tackles and one interception.

In the secondary, the Colonels added six new faces: Jaheim Ward, Moses Sarweh, Sam Robertson, Rishad Hence, Garnell Wilds Jr., and Rod Webb.

Ward joins EKU after three seasons with rival Austin Peay where he recorded a total of 39 total tackles.
Â
Sarweh played in every game last season at Dodge City Community College in Kansas with 57 total tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Â
Previously at Northern Illinois, Robertson played at Iowa Western in 2023 recording three interceptions, five pass breakups, 42 total tackles, and 3.5 tackles for loss.

Hence joins the Colonels after three seasons at Akron where he accumulated 34 tackles and three pass defenses.
Â
Wilds played in all 11 games last season for the City College of San Francisco where the Florida product totaled 24 tackles, two interceptions, and three breakups.
Â
Lastly, Webb played in 12 games in 2023 at the College of Charleston (W.Va.) finishing the season with 22 tackles and four interceptions.

The Colonels will finalize the class of 2024 on National Signing Day on Feb. 7
th.
