JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Behind a career-high 14 points from
Kaitlyn Costner and five other Colonels in double-figure scoring, EKU completes a sweep in the Sunshine State with a 79-56 win over North Florida on Saturday afternoon inside UNF Arena.
With the win, improving to 16-5 on the season, EKU has now won five consecutive conference games for the first time since 2005.
Graduate
Antwainette Walker scored a game-high 17 points while bringing down six rebounds and six steals. Her 17 points against UNF was her 50th career game in double-figure scoring. Walker has now scored 17 or more points in 4-of-6 conference games she's played in.
Following Walker, Costner scored a career-best 14 points going 5-of-8 from the floor, including a three-pointer in the first half. The Osceola, Indiana native added four rebounds, tying her career value for the fourth time in three seasons.
EKU's
Alice Recanati ended the game with six assists, tying the program record in career assists (487) set by Angie Cox in 1992. She returns home just one assist away from becoming the program leader.
Ivy Turner,
Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor, and
NeKiyah Thompson found themselves with 10 points, rounding out the rest of the Colonels' stat sheet for student-athletes in double figures. Turner and McGinnis-Taylor brought down seven rebounds apiece in the win.
Three made UNF three-pointers ended a back-and-forth first quarter with an even at 19 points all.
North Florida continued its offensive display to the under-5 media timeout before a made layup by Turner brought EKU ahead 34-33. Three made free throws from Recanati and McGinnis-Taylor ended the first half 37-33 in the Colonels' favor.
To open the third quarter, EKU pushed an 8-0 run while holding the Ospreys scoreless for just over eight minutes. A made three from Thompson and consecutive possessions with a jumper from Walker helped extend a 21-point cushion for the Colonels. UNF's Lyric Swann converted a layup with 31 seconds left on the clock to close a 25-7 period for EKU, 62-40.

Raphaela Toussaint extended EKU's largest lead of the game to 31 with just 2:45 remaining in regulation. The Colonels would hold on to secure their fifth consecutive ASUN win by a score of 79-56, the largest conference win of the season.
EKU shot 44 percent from the floor to move to 12-1 on the season in games the Colonels shoot 40 percent or better. North Florida shot 36 percent from the field and knocked down eight three-pointers. EKU outrebounded UNF by seven and forced the Ospreys into 23 turnovers.
EKU returns home for a stand-alone game against Stetson on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. EST inside Baptist Health Arena.
