RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University is back on the road this weekend for a conference clash with No. 7 ranked Tarleton State on Saturday night.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville, Texas. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and simulcast on WCYO 100.7 FM, with Greg Stotelmyer, Jim Tirey, and Wes Chandler on the call.
This week's matchup is the third meeting between the schools, but the first ever in Texas.
The Colonels won a thrilling double-overtime game last year, 41-35 in Richmond. Since that loss, TSU has won 11 straight games against FCS opponents and currently leads the United Athletic Conference standings.
Saturday's contest will be the second time this season that EKU will face a ranked team in the Lone Star State previously falling to then No.17 Abilene Christian, 34-20.
Under head coach
Walt Wells, the Colonels are 4-5 against nationally ranked opponents.
The Colonels
EKU travels to Texas following a 28-17 Homecoming win against Utah Tech last week.
Running back
Joshua Carter will be looking for back-to-back career weeks following his 167 yard and two touchdown performance against the Trailblazers.
The performance earned him the UAC's Offensive Player of the Week award as the Navarre, Fla. native has rushed for eight touchdowns in the last six games.
Defensively, the Colonels have caused chaos through turnovers with three in the last two games including a 23-yard scoop-and-score last week by linebacker
Maddox Marcellus.
Kicker
Patrick Nations enters Saturday only three points away from breaking the school record of 285 kicking points in a career.
Scouting the Texans
Tarleton State enters the weekend ranked seventh in both major FCS polls, the highest ranking in their D-I era and as winners of 11 of their last 12 games.
The Texans are fueled by their running game as running back Kayvon Britten leads the country in rushing yards with 1,266 this season and 13 touchdowns, the fourth most in FCS this season.
Britten is currently sixth in the nation in scoring as well averaging 9.8 per contest in 2024.
Defensively the Texan defense has stepped up over the past few weeks with a shutout performance two weeks ago over Utah Tech.
Over the last two weeks the Texans have only allowed 8.5 points per game with six sacks and three forced turnovers.
