RADFORD, Va. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball program will head to Virginia for the next four days and play two games against Radford on Saturday and Hampton next Monday.
Saturday's game at Radford (1-5) is scheduled to tipoff at 2 p.m. ET and can be viewed live on ESPN+. Monday's game at Hampton (1-3) is schedule to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will be steamed on FloSports. Both streaming services require a subscription for access.
EKU (2-3) is coming off a 28-point win over long-time foe Southeast Missouri State last weekend that found five Colonels end in double figure point performances. Forwards
Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor and
Kailani Lindsey recorded career-high 18 and 13 points, respectively.
This season, senior guard
Alice Recanati leads EKU with 11.4 points and 4.0 assists per game – her PPG value is the highest of her five-year career in Richmond. The Bergamo, Italy native also leads the Colonels with 20 assists, including two different games with 7+ assists, improving her program-leading total to 557 since 2020. With a start in Saturday's game against Radford, Recanati would total 124 career starts to move into first in school history – passing Bria Bass' 123 games started from 2017-22.
McGinnis-Taylor leads EKU and is second in the Atlantic Sun Conference with 7.8 rebounds per game and 39 rebounds. The Omaha, Nebraska native has had three games this season with 9+ rebounds and has one double-double.
Despite a 2-3 overall start to the 2024-25 season for the Colonels, after a win last Sunday, EKU moved to 2-1 against non-power-five program and are averaging 79.5 PPG in each of its two wins – defeating Southern Illinois by 21 and SEMO by 28. Scouting Radford
The Highlanders are coming off a 71-65 loss to Norfolk State on Nov. 20, marking four consecutive losses entering play on Saturday. Sophomore guard Joi Williams led Radford scoring 21 points last time out behind a 5-for-9 showing from beyond the arch. She also leads the team with 11.5 points per game this season.
History vs. Radford
EKU and Radford will meet for the fifth time on Saturday and is the first meeting between the two schools since 2004. EKU owns a 3-1 head-to-head record and have won two straight over the Highlanders in the last 24 years. However, EKU is 0-1 when playing at the Dedmon Center, suffering a 71-68 defeat on Nov. 14, 1981.
Scouting Hampton
Hampton does not play until next Monday's meeting with the Colonels and will enter play with a 1-3 overall record with a win over DII Bowie State to open the season and three consecutive losses to Radford, Norfolk State, and Vanderbilt. Graduate guard Jasha Clinton leads the Lady Pirates with 12.7 PPG and had a season-high 18 points against BSU.
History vs. Hampton
Monday's game is the first meeting between EKU and Hampton. The Colonels are 8-9 all-time against schools from Virginia.
