BATON ROUGE, La. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team fell in its season opener against the No. 7 ranked LSU Lady Tigers by a score of 95-44 on Monday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Freshman guard
Liz Freihofer scored nine points in her collegiate debut behind three made three-point field goals. Guards
Alice Recanati and
Kaitlyn Costner also scored a team-leading nine points while forward
Raphaela Toussaint added eight points and four rebounds.
EKU (0-1) attempts 31 three-pointers in Monday's loss, connecting on six. The Colonels shot 26 percent from the floor and forced LSU (1-0) into 17 turnovers.
LSU's Flau'jae Johnson led the Lady Tigers with 25 points going 10-for-15 from the floor. Forward Aneesah Morrow dropped 20 points and 10 rebounds, her first double-double of the 2024-25 campaign.
The Colonels scored 11 points in the first period and 13 in the second period to head into the locker room down 48-24 at halftime.
LSU connected on five of its first six possessions out of the break to push a 28-point lead and never looked back, ending Monday's opener with a 95-44 win. Forward
Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor led the team with six rebounds in the second half, ending with seven.
