CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will begin a two-game road swing on Sunday against Southern Illinois inside the Banterra Center. The Colonels will be seeking their first win of the 2024-25 season.
Sunday's game is scheduled to tipoff at 3 p.m. ET and can be streamed live on ESPN+. Fans can also tune into 92.5 WEKY with Wes Chandler court side on the call, the pregame show will begin around 2:30 p.m. ET.
The Colonels are coming off a loss to Tennessee State on Friday night after shooting 28 percent and 12 percent from beyond the arch. Senior point guard
Alice Recanati led the Colonels with 13 points and three assists. She improved her program-leading assist total to 540 in the loss.
Freshmen
Mya Wardle and
Bre'Aria Cannon recorded the first points in their collegiate careers on Friday. Wardle ended the night going 2-for-6 from three and totaled seven points.
Scouting Southern Illinois
SIU is coming off a season-opening loss to Auburn by a score of 65-31 on the road. Junior forward Gift Uchenna led the Salukis with eight points and nine rebounds, she stands 6-foot-3 and hails from Nigeria. Southern Illinois is coached by Kelly Bond-White, who is in her third season with the program and has a 23-40 record.
History vs. Southern Illinois
Sunday's game is the third meeting between Southern Illinois and EKU and the first meeting between the two programs in over 45 years. EKU and SIU played a home-and-home series during the 1978 and 1979 seasons, the Salukis won both meetings.
