As a team, the Colonels shot 46 percent (32-69) from the field and went 81 percent (17-21) from the free throw line to beat the Sycamores by double figures. EKU is averaging 85.2 points per game and have defeated four opponents by 20 or more points in its winning stretch.
EKU jumped out to a 12-0 run to open the first quarter over Indiana State and would never trail in the contest. A pair of threes and two made free throws from Angeles would seal a 27-12 quarter for the Colonels.
Costner scored the Colonels' first four buckets out in the second quarter pushing the EKU lead to 18 points at the media timeout. Freihofer knocked down her first three of the game with 32 second left in the first half for a 44-26 advantage heading into the locker room.
Despite pushing the lead to 18 again in the third quarter, Indiana State would attempt a comeback cutting its deficit to just six points near the media timeout. Timely baskets from
Kailani Lindsey and Angeles would quickly get EKU's lead back to 16 with two minutes left in the frame. The Colonels ended the third quarter with a 63-46 lead.
EKU had a 24-point lead in the fourth quarter and didn't allow the Sycamores to bring their deficit to single digits. The Colonels opened the EKU MTE with an 89-72 win over Indiana State, the program's first win over the Sycamores in program history.
The Colonels return to action tomorrow night back at the Clive M. Beck Center in the EKU MTE finale against Northern Illinois. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m. ET.
