CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Devontae Blanton scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but Eastern Kentucky University lost, 83-79, at Austin Peay on Wednesday.
Blanton hit 9-of-18 from the field and dished out two assists.
Tayshawn Comer also scored 23 points as well.
Leland Walker added 18 points.
EKU led by six, 47-41, before the Governors went on a 12-2 run to change the game. Dezi Jones hit a 3-pointer with 14:18 left in the game to cap it and give APSU a 53-49 lead.
The Colonels (17-12, 12-3 ASUN) closed to within one, 63-62, on a jumper from Blanton, but couldn't complete the comeback bid.
Austin Peay (16-14, 9-6 ASUN) went in front by nine, 80-71, on a jumper from Demarcus Sharp with 2:18 to play. Comer converted a lay-up and hit a 3-pointer from the right wing get the deficit to four. Blanton's two free throws with 56 seconds remaining made it a 3-point game, 81-78.
EKU struggled from behind the arc, making just 4-of-16. The Governors out-rebounded the Colonels 39-35.
Sai Witt had a game-best 26 points for Austin Peay. Isaac Haney added 22 for the Govs.
The Colonels broke a 17-17 tie by scoring five straight.
Isaiah Cozart finished it with a jumper for a 22-17 lead. EKU took its largest first half lead, 41-32, on Blanton's lay-up with 2:01 on the clock. The visitors led by six, 43-37, at the break.
EKU will conclude the 2023-24 regular season on Friday at Lipscomb. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
