EKU Men’s Tennis Plays First ASUN Conference Away Match Against North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team (18-4, 3-0 ASUN) plays its first Atlantic Sun Conference away match against North Alabama (11-6, 2-2 ASUN) on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. ET at the UNA Tennis Courts.
 
THE COLONELS
The Colonels enter the match with an 18-4 record, dominating to win against Queens by a score of 6-1 on March 24. The Maroon and White also won against Austin Peay and Bellarmine in ASUN Conference play. EKU won 12 straight matches from Jan. 31 to March 2, which is tied for the longest winning streak in program history.
 
The Maroon and White are led by Moritz Mayer, who boasts a 15-6 mark in singles play this season. He beat Georgia's Miguel Perez Pena in singles play on Jan. 22, who was the No. 43 singles player in the country, as it was the highest-ranked singles win in program history. The Eutingen, Germany product won the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week twice. Mayer leads the team and the ASUN in singles wins.
 
Evzen Holis won the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week three times this season, as he has a 14-5 record in singles from the top two courts. Paul-Antoine Brazet also has 14 singles wins. Kristoffer Stahlbrand has won six straight singles matches. Fernando Bulnes clinched the match for the Colonels against Queens, winning his 10th singles match of the season. EKU has an 80-49 mark in singles play as a team this season.
 
Mario Monclus Martin and Mayer are the leading pair in doubles, posting a 9-4 record from the top two spots in the lineup. Mayer and Stahlbrand lead the team with 11 doubles wins each. The Colonels have earned the doubles point in 14 out of their last 17 matches. EKU boasts a 33-15 record in doubles this season.
 
SCOUTING NORTH ALABAMA
North Alabama enters the contest with an 11-6 mark, losing to ASUN foe North Florida by a score of 7-0 on March 24. The Lions beat Kennesaw State and FGCU in ASUN Conference play so far this season. North Alabama is led by Birtan Duran in singles play, boasting a 12-4 record. Nazar Fedoryshyn leads the Lions in doubles, posting an 11-3 record, primarily from the No. 2 spot. North Alabama won the last matchup against EKU by a score of 4-3 in 1999, but the all-time series is tied 1-1.
