RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University allowed four home runs, including three in the third inning, in a 19-7 loss to Queens on Friday in the Atlantic Sun Conference series opener.
The Royals (9-24, 5-8 ASUN) already had a 9-0 lead before scoring five more in the third. Andrew McDermott started the inning with his second home run of the game. With one on and two outs, JJ Sousa hit a shot over the wall in right center. After a walk, Will Budnick sent a 2-run shot over the wall in right for a 14-0 lead.
Santiago Peralta's third home run of the season got the Colonels (9-24, 6-7 ASUN) on the board in the fourth. His shot over the wall in left came with
Tait Nunnally on base.
Conner Davis hit his fourth home run of the season to start the bottom of the fifth and make it a 16-3 deficit.
The game ended by run rule after seven innings.
Sousa went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs for Queens. McDermott was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.
Peralta went 1-for-1 with a walk, a run and two RBIs. Davis was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Game two of the series on Saturday will start at 6 p.m. As part of Alumni Weekend, the 1984 and 1989 EKU baseball teams will be recognized during Saturday's game.
