Paris Bound! Former National Champion Ahmed Jaziri Set To Compete At Olympics

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University alum and former national champion Ahmed Jaziri will represent his native country, Tunisia, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
 
Jaziri will compete in the first round of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase on August 5 at 1:04 p.m. ET in Paris.
 
This is the fifth Olympic Games to feature an EKU alum (four summer, one winter). Jaziri is the second Colonel to compete in the steeplechase at the Olympics. Two-time NCAA bronze medalist Ole Hesselbjerg competed in the steeplechase at the Olympics in 2016 and 2020.
 
The Rades, Tunisia product qualified for the Paris Olympics in the same event, recording a personal-best time of 8:14.93 on September 10, 2023, in Zagreb, Croatia.
 
Jaziri was a national champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2022, breaking the school record with a college-best time of 8:18.70. His time is the third-fastest in NCAA history.
 
Jaziri was a Second Team All-American for the steeplechase in 2021. He graduated from EKU with a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2022.
