RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU soccer dropped its Atlantic Sun Conference opener to Lipscomb by a score of 3-0 on Thursday evening at the EKU Soccer Complex.
EKU (3-5-1, 0-1-0 ASUN) will shift its sights to a tough road matchup against long-time rival Austin Peay on Sunday.
Freshman forward
Ella Grode totaled a team-leading three shots in the contest, striking one on target in the first half. Goalkeeper
Marah Krick recorded seven saves in the loss, marking back-to-back efforts with seven or more rejections.
Lipscomb (5-2-1, 1-0-0 ASUN) scored all three of their tallies in the first 27 minutes of play. Sparked by a left-footed strike from Hailey Johnson that found the lower left of the netting in the 16th minute.
Five minutes later, the Bisons were awarded a penalty kick for unsporting conduct from EKU in the box. LU's Kiara Pralle, who extended her ASUN-leading seven goals in the match, scored from the dotted mark to push a 2-0 lead.
At the 26-minute mark, Lipscomb found its three-goal advantage over the Colonels as Faith Adams placed the ball in the back of the net off a pass from Tatum Ahlemeyer.
EKU attempted four shots in the second period, including one on frame from
Maddy Murphy, but was unable to find any chances to get on the board to drop the ASUN opener at home, 3-0.
Lipscomb's win on Thursday was their third-straight victory, the Bisons outshot the Colonels by a wide 17-7 margin and 10-2 mark on target. EKU equalized in possession at 50 percent.
EKU returns to action on Sunday against Austin Peay in Clarksville at 2 p.m. EST on ESPN+. The Colonels are looking to even the all-time series against the Govs, which stands at 8-7-3 in APSU's favor.
