EKU Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season with Doubleheader Against Ole Miss

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team is ready to get back into action as they kick off the 2025 spring season on the road with a doubleheader against SEC foe Ole Miss.

Both matches are slated for Monday, Jan. 13 at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center. First serve for match one is scheduled for 11 a.m. while match two is set for 4 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the program's reinstatement in 2022. 

The Colonel men are coming off a successful fall season which saw the program's first doubles win at an ITA regional since the its return. Likewise, the Rebels' fall schedule saw junior Noah Schlagenhauf reach the quarterfinals of the ITA Southern Regional and make an appearance at the ITA Southern Sectionals, as well as two doubles pairings advancing to the round of 16 at the regional tournament. 

SCOUTING THE REBELS

The Rebels will be led in singles play by Schlagenhauf, who ranked at No. 123 in the nation in the initial ITA singles rankings for the 2025 season. Meanwhile, on the doubles court, the duo of Isac Stromberg and Matthieu Chambonniere come in at No. 67 in the country. Schlagenhauf and Chambonniere are strong returners for the Rebels, as Schlagenhauf racked up the second most conference victories in singles play in 2024 while Stromberg notched an impressive 11 singles wins in straight sets primarily at the No. 3 spot. 

A duo of newcomers will also be strong points for Ole Miss with freshmen Frenchmen Benjamin Martin and Chambonniere. Martin held an impressive 12.40 UTR ranking and was a finalist in the French championship for ages 15-16. Chambonniere boasts the 2021 ITF J4 Bromma doubles championship and the 2022 ITF J4 Dubai doubles title with 43 singles wins and 20 doubles wins in his amateur career.
