CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team took a 71-64 loss to West Georgia on Wednesday night at The Coliseum. The win was West Georgia's first as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Alice Recanati led the Colonels with 18 points going 5-for-9 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Senior forward
Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor dropped the ninth double-double of her career with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
EKU (11-5, 1-2 ASUN) opened Wednesday's game 0-for-12 from the floor and was never able to find rhythm until late in the contest. The Colonels ended the game shooting 32 percent from the floor and 16 percent from three, tying the team's second lowest total of the season.
West Georgia (7-7, 1-2 ASUN) shot 40 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the free throw line. Three Wolves scored in double figures, led by Sydne Tolbert who scored 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
Both teams combined for 68 free throw attempts in Wednesday's game, UWG claimed the advantage knocking down 24-of-35 shots. Both teams also recorded 42 rebounds apiece in the game.
