Colonels Play At Kent State On Tuesday

KENT, Ohio – EKU's strong non-conference schedule takes the Colonels to Kent State on Tuesday, the No. 24 ranked mid-major team in the nation.

THE COLONELS
-  EKU is coming off a 92-62 loss at Vanderbilt on Wednesday.  The Commodores entered the game ranked No. 26 in this week's Coaches Poll and No. 30 in the AP Poll.
 
-  Freshman MJ Williams scored a game-high 20 points against Vanderbilt, finishing 6-of-13 from the field and 5-of-10 from 3-point range.
 
-  In the last two games, Montavious Myrick has dished out 10 assists combined, finishing with five against Western Kentucky and five at Vanderbilt.  He also had eight points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks against the Commodores.
 
-  The Colonels have held their first three opponents to 29% shooting from 3-point range.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Kent State has won four in a row since beginning the season with an overtime loss to Troy.  The Golden Flashes have beaten Cornell (110-102), UNC Wilmington (86-77), Cleveland State (102-95) and Wright State (76-72) in overtime.  
 
- KSU has had little trouble scoring, averaging 94.2 points while shooting 47% from the field.  The Golden Flashes have allowed 90 points per contest and their opponents have shot 46% from the field.
 
-  The inside/outside combo of Morgan Safford and Delrecco Gillespie has dominated for Kent State.  Safford is second on the team in scoring (17 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg) while leading the team in 3-point shooting at 45% (18-for-40).  Gillespie, a 6-foot-8 senior forward, leads the team in scoring (21 ppg) and rebounding 13.6 rpg) while shooting 60% from the field and blocking 2.2 shots per game.  Safford, a 6-foot-4 guard, spent three seasons at Wofford and one at Miami (Ohio) before arriving at Kent State in 2023.  He redshirted in 2023-24 and missed most of the 2024-25 season due to an injury.
 
-  Gillespie had 26 points and 17 rebounds in Sunday's overtime victory against Wright State.  He went 10-of-17 from the field for 59%.  The rest of the team was 15-for-45 for 33%.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  This is the first-ever meeting between the EKU and Kent State basketball programs.
 
-  The two teams have never met despite being separated by only five and a half hours.
