RICHMOND, Ky. – Junior forward
Kailani Lindsey scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team to a 57-46 win over North Dakota on Sunday afternoon at Baptist Health Arena.
Lindsey went 8-of-13 from the field and knocked down two 3-pointers, setting career highs in points, made field goals, and made 3-pointers.
Sophomore guard
Liz Freihofer posted her fourth straight game in double figures, finishing with 13 points on three made 3-pointers and coming one rebound shy of a double-double.
Senior forward
Ella Bradley was the third Colonel in double figures with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists. Her 10 points marked a season high and an EKU career high for the Cambridge, New Zealand, native.
Despite shooting just 29.9 percent from the floor, 23.1 percent from long range and attempting only four free throws, EKU (3-1) secured its third win in four games to open the 2025-26 season.
The Colonels' defense led the way, holding North Dakota (0-4) to 26.9 percent shooting overall and 18.5 percent from 3-point range. EKU has now held all four opponents this season to 60 points or fewer.
EKU also forced 27 turnovers, tying the second-most turnovers forced against a Division I opponent in a single game during the
Greg Todd era.
After a slow start offensively, the Colonels used a 10-0 run near the first-quarter media timeout, sparked by 3-pointers from Freihofer and freshman guard
Kenleigh Woods, to take a 13-4 lead. Lindsey added two baskets, including a 3-pointer, as EKU led 20-12 after one.
Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter, combining for just 17 points. A Lindsey jumper with 4:24 left in the half pushed EKU's lead to 10, and the Colonels went into halftime up 24-14.
North Dakota attempted to trim the deficit in the third quarter but couldn't close the gap as EKU connected on four 3-pointers, one each from Bradley, Freihofer, Lindsey, and senior forward
Joseana Vaz.
EKU led by as many as 19 in the fourth quarter, 55-36, following a steal and fast break score by Woods. The Colonels maintained control, winning the game 57-46, despite a late 7-0 run by the Fighting Hawks as the EKU bench saw extended minutes.
Ava Miller led North Dakota with 10 points. She was the only UND player in double figures.
EKU will travel to Grand Forks for the return game against North Dakota on Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Summit League TV.
