RICHMOND, Ky. – Sophomore guard
Liz Freihofer scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team to a 107–66 win over Midway University on Saturday night at Baptist Health Arena.
Freihofer was one of five Colonels to score in double figures in the 41-point victory. The Union, Kentucky, native knocked down five 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field, 50 percent from deep, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
She added six rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block, rounding out one of the most complete performances of her two-year career. Freihofer entered Saturday leading the Atlantic Sun Conference and top 15 in the NCAA in made 3-pointers and 3-pointers per game.
Senior forward
Joseana Vaz posted her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward
Jasmine Jordan added a double-double of her own, finishing with 11 points and 11 boards.
Senior guard
Ndidiamaka Ndukwe scored a season-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including two 3-pointers. Freshman guard
Kenleigh Woods rounded out EKU's double-figure scorers with 11 points, five assists and two blocks.
With the win, EKU (5–1) extended its winning streak to four to open the 2025–26 season. The Colonels shot 52 percent (43-of-82) from the floor and hit 12 3-pointers.
EKU pulled down 59 rebounds, the program's most in a game since grabbing 61 in a 100–25 win over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg in November 2023. Prior to that, the Colonels' last 60-rebound performance came against Georgia Tech in 1985.
Midway (5–2) opened the game hot from beyond the arc, hitting two early 3-pointers to take a 14–10 lead at the first media timeout. EKU quickly swung momentum with an 8–0 run sparked by 3-pointers from Freihofer and Woods, and the Colonels never looked back.
EKU scored 25 points in the first quarter, followed by 28 points in both the second and third, and 26 in the fourth to reach its 107-point total.
Nine of EKU's 11 players who entered the game scored. The Colonels assisted on 30 of their 43 made baskets, dominated the paint with 54 points and held a plus-20 edge in fast-break points (35–15).
EKU returns to action Wednesday at noon on the road against longtime rival Morehead State. The match up marks the 104th meeting between the programs since 1972. EKU leads the all-time series 58–45 and has won six straight against the Eagles.
