EKU Women’s Basketball Wins Sixth Straight, Defeats Army 74–64

Freihofer, Vaz Lead Colonels with 12 Points

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University used a balanced, efficient performance to earn its sixth straight win, defeating the United States Military Academy, Army West Point 74–64 on Saturday afternoon at Baptist Health Arena.

With the victory, EKU (7-1) has won six in a row since November 12, with five of those wins coming against fellow mid-major Division I opponents.

Four Colonels scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Liz Freihofer and senior forward Joseana Vaz led with 12 points apiece, while senior guard Althea Kara Angeles added 11 and freshman guard Kenleigh Woods chipped in 10.

Freihofer has now reached double figures in all eight games this season.

Angeles nearly posted a triple-double with 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Junior forward Kailani Lindsey provided nine points and six boards off the bench in 21 minutes.

EKU shot 52 percent (27-of-52) from the field and made 16-of-21 free throws. The Colonels did most of their damage inside, scoring 62 of their 74 points in the paint.

EKU opened in rhythm on both ends, forcing five first-quarter turnovers and turning them into early transition points to take a 19–14 lead. Army (5-2) used timely 3-point shooting to close the gap in the second quarter, but the Colonels' bench responded.

Senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe hit a three, and Lindsey and Madison Lewis combined for 13 points as EKU carried a 36–33 halftime edge.

Army's Reese Ericson led all scorers with 17 points and five 3-pointers, helping keep the Black Knights within striking distance throughout.

Both teams traded defensive stops in a tight third quarter. EKU protected the interior with four blocks in the period, while second-chance scores from Freihofer and a transition layup from Vaz kept the Colonels in front, 52–47.

EKU closed with its strongest offensive stretch, attacking the rim for 22 fourth-quarter points. Angeles dictated the tempo, creating lanes for Woods, Freihofer and Lindsey, and the Colonels held Army without a field goal for a key three-minute span. A closing 10–3 run sealed the win.

The Colonels outrebounded Army 34–25 and scored 42 points in the paint. Despite nine lead changes and five ties, EKU led for more than 34 minutes in the 74-64 victory.

EKU will return to action on December 10 at 2 p.m. ET at the University of Arizona. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
