Late free throws from Angeles and Freihofer trimmed the deficit, but Arizona carried a 40–35 edge into halftime.
Arizona extended its advantage with an 8–2 run to start the third quarter, sparked by Montaya Dew's free throws and another Perdue layup. EKU struggled to finish at the rim early in the period, but steady free-throw shooting and a 3-pointer from
Ndidiamaka Ndukwe kept the Colonels within striking distance. The Wildcats continued to score in transition and led 62–51 entering the fourth.
EKU mounted a push behind Angeles and Vaz, using a 10–4 run to cut the deficit to single digits. Arizona countered with another three from Perdue and timely free throws to maintain its lead. Woods brought the Colonels within one, 78–77, on a left-wing 3-pointer with under two minutes remaining.
