CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team is set to hit the road to play Queens University on Wednesday night inside Curry Arena. The Colonels enter the midweek clash sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference women's basketball standings.
Wednesday's game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. ET and can be streamed on ESPN+ with Jon Gross, Josh Springer, and Katelyn McCarthy on the call. The game can also be streamed over the air via the EKU Sports Network on 92.5 WEKY.
EKU (16-9, 6-6 ASUN) is coming off a narrow 68-65 loss to the ASUN's No. 1-ranked FGCU last Saturday, nearly snapping the Eagles' 44-game win streak over conference opponents. Prior to last week's loss, the Colonels had won three straight games in league play.
Fifth year forward
Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor enters this week's slate of games on a hot streak, nearing a double double in both contests with 17 points, 11 rebounds in the win over Stetson and 15 points, eight rebounds in the loss to FGCU. The Omaha, Nebraska native is averaging a career-best 10.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this season.
Senior guard
Kaitlyn Costner continues to lead the club with 12.9 PPG and has ended in double figures in 17 of her last 20 games. Fifth year guard
Alice Recanati is second on the team in scoring with 12.5 PPG while also leading the team with 4.4 assists per game, she is first in the league and top 100 nationally in passing categories. Freshman guard
Liz Freihofer is fourth on the team with 11.0 PPG and had 16 points against FGCU, the Kentuckian is a 7-time ASUN weekly honor recipient this season.
As of Tuesday, EKU is tied for sixth in the ASUN Conference women's basketball standings with six games left in the 2024-25 regular season. Four of the remaining six games are against the bottom half of the league consisting of No. 7 Jacksonville, No. 8 Bellarmine, No. 11 Queens, and No. 12 North Florida – who the Colonels hold a 3-0 record against through play in January and early February.
Scouting Queens
Queens (8-15, 2-10 ASUN) enters play on Wednesday needing a win in league play having lost four of their last five games to West Georgia, Central Arkansas, North Alabama, and Jacksonville. The Royals are led by 5-foot-11 junior forward Jordyn Weaver who is averaging 13.8 PPG and has scored double figures in her last seven games.
History vs. Queens
Wednesday's game in Charlotte marks the third meeting between EKU and Queens since 2023. The Colonels lead the all-time series 2-0 and have won both meetings by 21 or more points, including a 33-point win last time playing inside Curry Arena.
