MESQUITE, Nev. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team opened the spring season with a second-place finish as a team at the Mesquite Desert Classic, hosted by the Colonels.
The team shot a score of 846 over the three rounds to secure the top two finish, tied for the 12th-best score over 54 holes in program history. The performance included a 273 shot second round - tied for the fifth-best single round in program history - with the top four Colonels all shooting under par. Overall, the squad finished with a final overall score of eighteen-under. just three strokes off first place Utah Valley.
Leading the charge for the Colonels once again was
Anders Larson, finishing second-place as well individually with a total score of twelve-under. Larson's second round scorecard saw a performance of 65 strokes, which ties for the third-best single round in program history and the first 65 or better round for a Colonel since the 2016-17 season.
Bringing another top ten individual finish for the Colonels was
Connor Gdovin, securing 10th with a final score of three-under as he opened his competition with a 69-stroke first round.
Jackson Finney finished even for the three rounds to come in at 20th individually, also recording a 69 in his second round.Â
Zach Watterson came in just behind in 29th with a score of three-over as he scored a 68 in the second round.
Isaac Meador rounded out the scoring Colonels in 50th with a total score of nine-over for the three rounds.
Carl Space competed as in individual for the Colonels and finished in 43rd at six-over.

EKU returns to action next week in St. Augustine, Fla. as they host the World Golf Village Collegiate at World Golf Village. The competition is set for two days from Feb. 24-25.
