OXFORD, Miss. – A bases loaded triple in the sixth inning allowed Eastern Kentucky University to get within two, but Mississippi pulled away for an 9-4 victory on Saturday in the second game of the weekend series in Oxford.

Ole Miss (5-1) scored first, platting an unearned run in the bottom of the second on a single to left from Hayden Federico. One inning later, Federico drove in two more with a double down the left field line for a 3-0 lead.

One run in the third and a solo home run from Luke Hill in the fourth allowed the Rebels to extend their lead to 5-0.

The Colonels (0-6) got on the board in the top of the sixth.Â
Diego Alana singled to start the inning.Â
Tait Nunnally was hit by a pitch and
Colby Ott walked to load the bases. After a pair of strikeouts,
Kam Taylor took the first pitch he saw and sent it into the corner down the right field line. The triple cleared the bases and cut the deficit to two, 5-3.

Ole Miss answered in the bottom half of the sixth with three runs, two of which scored on a bases loaded hit by a pitch and a bases loaded walk.

Julius Scearce hit his first career home run in the top of the eighth to draw the Colonels to within four, 8-4.Â

Scearce finished 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Taylor had a 1-for-3 day with three RBIs.

Hill finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Rebels. Riley Maddox started and pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out five.
