EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis program defeated Southern Indiana on Friday night by a score of 4-2 but lost to Connecticut earlier in the day, 4-2.  The Colonels have now won three of their last four games as the non-conference slate winds down.
 
EKU (7-10) dropped the doubles point to the Screaming Eagles but prevailed on four singles courts for the victory.
 
Junior Masha Fedenko led the Colonels with a swift 6-2 straight set win over Anais Negrail on the top court to equalize the contest at one.  Minutes later, Zhansaya Bakytzhan gave EKU the 2-1 lead on court No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Abby Myers.
 
On court No. 2, Sasha Parkhomenko extended the Colonels' lead to two points with a 6-0, 6-1 take down of Antonia Ferrarini.  Despite EKU's hot start in singles, Southern Indiana stormed back with two wins on court Nos. 3 and 4.
 
With the effort, EKU's Izem Elif Olcer got the clincher with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Madison Windham on court No. 5.
 
Against UConn, EKU won the doubles point over the Huskies and claimed one singles match on court No. 2.  Parkhomenko defeated UConn's Maria Constantinou 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets.
