Pinheiro, Bulnes Named ASUN All-Conference

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis student-athletes Nuno Pinhero and Fernando Bulnes have been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference's postseason awards, announced from the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Pinheiro was named First Team All-ASUN while Bulnes was picked Second Team All-ASUN.  Both honorees are the programs highest selections since being a member of the ASUN Conference and the first time having two all-conference picks since 2018.  The awards were voted on by head coaches across the league.

Pinheiro finished the 2024-25 season with a combined record of 26-13 primarily playing from the Colonels' top two courts in doubles and singles.  In singles, he led the team with 14 wins—seven of those coming from the top flight.

The Sintra, Portugal native opened the season with a perfect 6-0 record in singles, including wins over Louisville's Andre Steinback 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 and Xavier's Ryan Cahill 2-6, 7-5, 1-0.

After a slight setback in three-straight road matches to open February, Pinheiro went on to win five consecutive matches near the end of the month before conference play began in mid-March.  In league play, he won three matches on court one against foes from Austin Peay, Bellarmine, and Lipscomb.  He was a two-time ASUN Player of the Week recipient this season.

Bulnes was second on the team with 10 singles wins and a combined 19-14 record across all courts.  In singles, the Badajoz, Spain native led EKU with five wins in ASUN Conference play with notable victories over fellow ASUN postseason honoree Bruno Vietri of North Florida 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 and FGCU's Jonathan Baron 2-6, 7-5, 1-0.

He won three-straight singles matches from Feb. 8-20 over opponents from Chattanooga, Saint Louis, and Georgetown to jump start his season.  Bulnes picked up six victories in a seven-match stretch to close out the non-conference schedule and begin league play, all coming from court two.

The junior duo of Pinheiro and Bulnes spent most of the season paired together in doubles on EKU's top court, they combined to finish 8-3 on the season and 5-2 against ASUN Conference opponents—all on the top court.

With Wednesday's announcement, EKU is now up to 38 all-conference singles selections since 1963.  The Colonels have had three All-ASUN singles picks since reinstating the tennis program in 2022.
