Six EKU Tennis Student-Athletes Named CSC Academic All-District®

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Six Eastern Kentucky University tennis student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team, announced by the organization from its headquarters in Indiana on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Kartik Parhar, Romeo Elfving Navarro, and Ryan Kitchin were the selections from the EKU men's tennis team.  Masha Fedenko, Sasha Parkhomenko, and Zhansaya Bakytzhan were the selections from the EKU women's tennis team.
 
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.  Nominees must be enrolled at their institution at the time of nomination as either an undergraduate or graduate student and carry a 3.50 GPA.  Athletically, to qualify for the award, nominees must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition.
 
On the men's team, Kitchin finished the academic year with a 4.00 GPA while closing a degree in business management.  On the courts, the senior from Sydney, Australia combined for a 15-24 overall record and had the third most wins on the team in singles (8) and doubles (7) play.
 
Navarro joined Kitchin with a team-high 4.00 GPA while pursuing a degree in finance.  The sophomore from Rungsted Kyst, Denmark finished the season athletically with nine wins between doubles and singles action, including a 4-1 mark in doubles with three ASUN Conference wins over North Florida, Queens, and North Alabama.
 
Additionally, Parhar was the men's third nominee ending the year with a 3.85 GPA pursuing a degree in sports management.  The junior from Ludhiana, India had nine individual wins during the 2024-25 season playing from the back three courts.  He had wins in ASUN play against Austin Peay and Queens.
 
On the women's team, Bakytzhan ended the year with a 3.90 GPA pursuing a degree in sports management.  The sophomore from Astana, Kazakhstan went 6-15 in singles play and 5-14 in doubles play from the third flight.
 
Fedenko ended the year with a 3.50 GPA pursuing a degree in sports management.  The junior from Dnipro, Ukraine played the entirety of the season from EKU's top court, finishing with an overall record of 11-36 between doubles and singles play.
 
Additionally, Parkhomenko held a 3.50 GPA while also pursuing a degree in sports management.  The junior from Kharkiv, Ukraine was second on the team with eight singles wins and fourth in doubles wins with seven.  She traditionally played from the Colonels' second flight.
 
EKU puts a bow on the 2024-25 season with eight postseason accolades awarded to its tennis program.  Fans are encouraged to be on the lookout in the coming months for the Fall schedule which is anticipated to begin in early September.
