Colonels Fall To Dayton In Midweek Tilt

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University's baseball team led 2-0 and 3-2, but couldn't hold off Dayton as the Flyers came from behind for a 7-6 victory in a midweek game on Tuesday at Earle Combs Stadium.

EKU scored a pair in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.  Nazir Mendez brought home the first with a ground ball to first base.  Silas Shaffer drove in the second with a single to center.

After the Flyers tied it 2-2 in the top of the fourth, Greg Caban drove in a run on a ground ball to second in the bottom of the inning to put the Colonels back in front, 3-2.

Four straight 2-out singles brought in three runs in the top of the fifth for Dayton.  Adin Zorn broke a 3-3 tie with a single through the left side.  Mason Dobie made it 5-3 with a single up the middle.

An RBI single from Ryan MacDougall in the sixth, and an error on the same play that allowed a second run to score, put the visitors ahead 7-4.

The Colonels loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth, but scored only two runs on sacrifice flies from Caban and Mauri Bejarano.
