RICHMOND, Ky. – Two Eastern Kentucky University pitchers combined to limit Morehead State to one run on six hits in a 3-1 victory for the Colonels on Wednesday at Earle Combs Stadium.
Sophomore
Elijah Underhill gave the Colonels five shutout innings in his midweek start. He allowed just two hits, walked five and struck out five.
Burkley Bounds covered the final four innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out two.
EKU jumped out in front with two runs in the bottom of the first. With two outs and one on,
Silas Shaffer drew a walk.
Julius Scearce followed with a triple into the gap in left center to make it a 2-0 game.
Scearce extended the lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
The Eagles (10-20) broke up the shutout in the top of the eighth. After a leadoff triple from Alex Kean, Caden Sheridan doubled to left field to cut the deficit to 3-1. Bounds retired the next three batters on a pop up, a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat.
Scearce had a 1-for-2 night with three RBIs.
Jackson Ginther had two hits in four at bats.
Tait Nunnally was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Shaffer finished 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
Sheridan was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Trevor Callahan pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief for MSU without allowing a run.
EKU (6-28) will host Lipscomb for a 3-game Atlantic Sun Conference series starting Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
